favorite instant message conversation of the week.

i swear we are not 12 years old. but sometimes kristin and i DO talk about horses. and how much we love them.

raena: i want to plan a western trip
that involves lots of horseback riding

Kristin: i like it
horses are so pretty
and awesome

raena: yeah i love them

Kristin: i don't get scared of them at all, i know some people do

raena: yeah they are big animals and freak people out

Kristin: do you get scared of them ever?
i just want to hug them 4-eva

raena: no i don't really get scared, unless they are ornery
i just want to pet their soft soft noses and ears and hug their big strong necks!

Kristin: yes the best is when you're sitting on one and you can hug its neck
i love the sound they make when they breathe

raena: yeaaaaah
this is my favorite conversation we've ever had

Kristin: all these great ideas i'm having today!
road trip
nail polish
i mean everything important is covered

raena: what else IS there?!

serenity now.

i don't even know what to say. so i will just document things that i have said over the last 24 hours. but only the passionate, charged, emphatic, and mostly sarcastic things.

  • you have GOT to be f@&!ing kidding me.
  • i'm HUNGRY.
  • i just want this day to end. i can't wait to wake up tomorrow morning.
  • [slapping my hands down on my desk] NO. NO NO NO NO NO.
  • CLASSY. reeeeeaaaaally classy.
  • to my detriment, i still love you, you stupid CAR.
  • etc.

hopefully that does it. because right now i kind of feel like this very old photo from 2005. 2005!! what the heck. i miss that orange hoodie. gaaaaaahhhhh.

el fin.

the mercury program - v. 2.0.

they done did it again. just as i was feeling the height of displacement in philly, the guys from the mercury program came to town to play a show. and i think it helped bring me back to something resembling comfort. seeing familiar faces was therapeutic.

i brought my awesome new camera and it totally delivered. every time i took a picture, i would stop and guffaw at the ridiculosity of the resulting photos . . it may not look like much difference to you, but i see a HUGE upgrade in the quality of photos that this thing produces. it makes me a little giddy. i would stop and review the last few photos and then sort of give my camera a little squeeze, as if it could appreciate my affection. truth.

the mercury program, of course, played a great show. you're jealous that you didn't see them on their mini-tour. trust me.

time for me to catch another train.

now touring the eastern seaboard.

the last 6 weeks or so have looked like this:

richmond > DC > NYC > DC > richmond > DC > richmond > west palm beach > richmond > philly

now appearing in philadelphia, pa! through july, anyhow. so that means that i'm still working on my whole capital cities science project. i mean, it's a bit of a stretch, but philly was the capital of the US from 1790 to 1800. chew on that.

first impressions:
  • the city seems ok. i'm not blown away/impressed yet.
  • got some awesome falafel and sweet potato fries (two days in a row mmmm).
  • had a sub-par fro-yo experience (what's with the self-serve fro-yo? i went to a place in richmond like this too. no es bueno. i want an Expert to fro my yo)
  • feeling generally displaced/uncomfortable and trying to be ok with not having my sewing machine or kitchenaid mixer for the next two months.
  • train system is weak.
  • i've realized that nobody can stack up to my Standards of Cleanliness.

it's nice out, hot but with a breeze. if you'd like to see, here's a peek down the street. taken only moments ago!

now if only my powers of adaptation would kick in . .
